- ABSTRACT The study was about assessment of the effect of stress management on the performance of records managers in Mbarara District Local Government. The study focused on three objectives namely; determining the effect of increased errors on the performance of record managers at Mbarara District Local Government, determining the effect of social isolation overload on the performance of record managers at Mbarara District Local Government and evaluating the effect of nervous habits on the performance of record managers at Mbarara District Local Government. The study adopted a cross-section research design which involved the use of both quantitative and qualitative research methods of data collection. The study used a sample size of 80 respondents from a population of 100 people at Mbarara DLG including heads of departments. The study employed simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques. Data was collected using both questionnaire and interview methods. According to the study findings about the effect of increased errors on the performance of record managers, majority of respondents agreed that increased errors reduce staff efficiency and productivity while minority of respondents disagreed with the statement. Findings about the effect of social isolation on the performance of record managers also indicated that majority of respondents of the respondents agreed that socio isolation leads to poor relationships among staff in the district, however this was denied by the of minority respondents. While findings about the effect of nervous habits on the performance of record managers indicated that majority of respondents agreed that leaders who use negative language inadvertently contribute to anxiety levels in their employees while of minority respondents disagreed with the statement. The study concluded that records managers’ performances suffer significantly and this subsequently leads to increased errors among the affected staff, social isolation and nervous habits which make the working environment un favorable for effective performance. The study recommended that management should set up counselling departments or units at the district and recruit experience psychologist to offer counselling to staff.
